A team from the IIT Madras created India's first microprocessor called Shakti, which might soon power devices.
It is developed and booted at the RISE laboratory. Shakti was created using a microchip fabricated at ISRO. The team is already in touch with 13 companies regarding the strategic and commercial application of the microprocessor.
According to the researchers, Shakti is aimed at reducing the dependence on imported microprocessors and using developed computing systems in the defense sector to eliminate the risks of espionage(the practice of spying or of using spies, typically by governments to obtain political and military information.).
