Now cyber criminals are targeting Fortnite players with fake offers for free v-bucks order to collect their private information. According to ZeroFOX, around 4,770 websites and at least 1,440 YouTube videos are using Fortnite's in-game currency as a front for phishing and other scams.
Most of these ads and offers are apparently being shared on social media and on YouTube, with most of them redirecting users to websites that collect their login, email and other personal information. Alarmingly, most of the victims seem to be children, who, unsurprisingly, are failing to see through the scams unlike adults.
It will be interesting to see what Epic Games and the various social media platforms do to protect children from being victimized, but buying v-bucks strictly from official sources will be a good start.
